The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have reached an agreement to Prioritize Promotion of about 30,000 teachers, including those in C4 and C5 categories, who have been in the same position for more than seven years.

KUPPET has raised concerns regarding the lack of advancement for over 50,000 teachers across the board who have been at a standstill for an extended period.
During a meeting held this Month in Naivasha with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the union appealed to the government to allocate Sh1 billion to TSC for the immediate promotion of 30,000 teachers, a subset of the 50,000 who have faced stagnation for an extended duration.
Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Secretary-General (SG) Akelo Misori emphasized that priority will be given to current C4 and C5 teachers, who will transition to C5 and D1 respectively, thereby creating opportunities for long-serving teachers currently confined to Grade C3.
Additionally, approximately 7,400 C4 TSC teachers were excluded from the promotions for the 2023–2024 period, purportedly due to their tenure in the current grade being less than three years.
Nevertheless, KUPPET’s advocacy only facilitated access to this grade two years ago, following years of stagnation in C3 and the former Job Group L. Hence, they too merit promotion.
