UoN VC Publicly Attacks Director Corporate Affairs, Mr Orindi

The University of Nairobi (UoN) Vice Chancellor (VC ) Prof Stephen Kiama has dismissed a letter issued by Director of corporate affairs Mr John Orindi Claiming that the don has proceeded on compulsory leave.

In a memo issued on Monday April 22 ,Kiama asked members of staff and students to ignore the communication which he termed as misleading.

“My attention is drawn to a communication which was circulated to all members of staff and students by Mr John Orindi on Friday 19th April 2024 at 6:27 PM claiming that the Vice Chancellor had proceeded on leave.” the Uon VC stated.

According to Kiama ,the matter has elicited a lot of publicity and has the potential to lead to apprehension to both members of staff and students.

Prof Kiama called on the students and staff to be committed in  driving the university to a a truly globally competitive university transforming society.

Earlier, the university council had placed VC Prof Kiama on compulsory leave after a meeting held on Friday. Chairperson Amukova Anangwe announced that Prof Ayub Njoroge Gitau had been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor.

The council did not communicate the reason for their decision.

“The Council resolves that the Vice Chancellor prof. Stephen Kiama Gitahi proceeds on leave effective April 19, 2024. That Prof. Ayub Njoroge Gitau, Dean of Faculty of Engineering is appointed to act as the Vice Chancellor with effective from Friday, April 19, 2024,” read the memo in part.

“The University fraternity is called upon to support Professor Ayub Njoroge Gitau as he discharges how new responsibility as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi,” the memo added.
